Coastline: GSHHG high, every island kept — Wessel & Smith's shoreline, assembled from survey data rather than generalised for drawing. The same rings are drawn and measured against, so what the map calls coastal is measured to the coast it shows. Lakes and rivers are Natural Earth 10m; nothing is measured against them. Web Mercator, clipped to 85°N and 80°S — north to clear the highest-latitude tide location in the set, south because everything below is empty ocean drawn at enormous vertical exaggeration. Distance to land comes from NASA OBPG's 0.01° distance-to-coast grid, mirrored by PacIOOS, because Natural Earth at this scale omits small islands and put a town in Greenland 12.8 km out to sea. Sea-ice extent from NSIDC G02135, at each hemisphere maximum: March north, September south. The palette is Okabe-Ito, chosen so its hues stay distinguishable for readers who see some of them alike. Zoom runs to 300×, which is where a search result lands; clicking a pin lands at 200×, leaving room to zoom in further by hand. Either way the pin is brought to the middle, ringed, and its tooltip stays open until you drag, zoom or click open sea.
